White-chinned Petral
The White-chinned Petrel or Cape Hen Procellaria aequinoctialis, is a large shearwater in the family Procellariidae. It ranges around the Southern Oceans as far north as South Australai, Peru and NambiaNamibia, and breeds colonially on scattered islands.
Its bill is characterized by a lack of dark pigment on the tip but present on the nostrils. There are variable amounts of white feathers below the lower bill (not seen here).
These were photographed on the pelagic trip out of Kaikoura, South Island, NZ.
