Blue Penguin
The Blue Penguin, Little Penguin, Fairy Penguin, Little Blue Penguin, or Kororā (in Maori) Eudyptula minor is the smallest species of penguin. They are native to the coastlines of southern Australia and New Zealand (see range map).
Since they are nocturnal and come our to feed in the early evening after the sun has set, the problem of photographing the Blue Penguin is similar to that of photographing the Kiwi. Photo 475 was taking in the pouring rain after sunset on the beach of Stewart Island near the ferry dock. The other two photos were taken in the day time in Blue Penguin burrows at the Penguin Place on the Otago Peninsula at Dunedin.
The last photowas taken by Charles Cummings.
