The Verdin Auriparus flaviceps is a handsome little bird that is common in the shrubs of the Southwestern Deserts. After we finished photographing at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve in Henderson, NV we met a group of hummingbird banders in the parking lot. They caught humming birds in a cage outfitted with an almost invisible thread that could be pulled from 30 years away to close the trap door after a visitor approached the food. This time they caught a Verdin and I photographed it in the bander's hand.
