One of the great places we stayed on our Oregon Coast birding trip was the Pigeon Cove near Charleston. We found this though VRBO.com (Vacation Rental by Owner). Two photos are shown here. This condo was a few feet from the water and the level flats allowed for large expanses of mud flats at low tide. One morning I scanned the flats with the binoculars and saw a flock of unknown ducks in the water far in the distance (1237). I put on my water shoes and slowly advanced, taking photos as I went. I did not get far before the entire flock flew off. Photos of the disappearing flock allowed me to identifying them as Blue-winged Teal Anas discors with the blue rear third of the wing and the distinctive white feather mid wing (1263, 1255, 1257).
