The Maui CreeperParoreomyza montanais only found on Maui and there it is only found in the high forests on Haleakala. Thus, getting a photo of one was considered a prize. When I returned to Hosmer Grove with fellow bird photographers David and Carl, I took a blind shot at a bird in the bush and on inspection it turned out to be a Maui Creeper. However, it was a bit out of focus (4653) since auto focusing on a bird in a bush often did not give good results and by the time I went back to use manual focus he was gone. This stimulated David Buchanan to return a few days later to see it he could get a better photo. Right after a rain spell, he found several in the bushes. The focus was still not perfect, but better than mine. His initials are on those photos (3303, 3304).
The Maui Creeper is in the order Passeriformes and family Fringillidae, same family as the Hawaiian Honeycreeper but different than the Brown Creeper that is in the family Certhidae.
