The small sandpipers known as "peeps" are among some of the hardest birds to distinguish. The Least is the smallest of all the sandpipers. Its range, small size compared to other "peeps" yellow legs, and the details of the head coloring with a wide white strip just above and forward of the eye, identified this as a Least Sandpiper. The bird in the first photo (5693) was photographed at Mono Lake, Lee Vining, CA. The other three were photographed at Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve, Huntington Beach, CA.
