The White-tailed KiteElanus leucurus, is an elanid kite of genus Elanus found in western North America and parts of South America. Mainly white underneath, they have black wingtips and shoulders and a white tail. An elanid kite, is any of several small, long-winged, hovering raptors. All are specialist rodent hunters and most are members of the genus Elanus. Elanid kites have a near-worldwide distribution, with three endemic species found in the Americas, two in Australia, one each in Asia and Africa. This bird was photographed at Hacienda Solimar, Costa Rica.
