We first visited Bosque Del Apache for bird photography during the Sandhill Crane Festival in November, 2010. We had an opportunity to return to "the BOSS KEY" in November 2015 as part of a Birds as Art photography seminar given by Arthur Morris and Denise Ippolito (www.birdsasrat-blog.com).
We also took the opportunity to vist the Very Large Array of radio astronomy antennae near Socorro. This is fully documented under "The VLA"
To convert regular photos to artistic photos an emphasis was placed on "blurs." This was done by using a very slow shutter speed, such as 1/15th, while the birds are in flight. After spending 10 years with an emphasis on trying to get tac-sharp photos, I found this to be like fine whisky - an acquired taste. However, we learned a number of other aspects of photography to produce more artistic photos. The following are some examples (see appropriate photo page).
Fly out of sandhill cranes in the morning.
Sandhill Cranes dancinng
Blast off of Snow Geese in the afternoon.
Sandhill cranes in the twilight.
