The Pacific-slope flycatcher Empidomas difficilis is the perfect bird to represent inland birds of the Pacific Coast. My son Scott, who also contributed to the our Galapagos pictures, photographed this striking masked ranger in reverse on his window sill in the Ridge Community, Forestville, CA. This small bird with the white eye-ring is similar to the Hutton’s Vireo and the female Ruby-crowned Kinglet. The orange-yellow mandible helps distinguishes the flycatcher from these two other species.
