This page present a collection of mostly single photographs of other interesting birds, some photographed on the way to the Galapagos the rest on the Galapagos. On the way from Los Angeles we had a one day layover in Miami. While there we visited the Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables and photographed the Purple Gallinule (5816) and the Land Iguana (see that page).
When we got to Guayaquil we took a morning walking tour of Cerro Blanco, a privately held preserve just outside of the city. The best catch there was the beautiful Ecuadorian Trogan Trogon mesurus with a bright red breast, green head and neck, and red eye ring contrasting with a white iris and plain grey tail feathers (6038). Just as we were preparing to leave what was otherwise an unproductive shoot, he flew onto a nearby tree and waited to have his picture taken.
That afternoon we took a tour of the city. At a riverfront restaurant several Great-tailed Grackles Quiscalus mexicanus were cavorting on the chairs.
On the Galapagos our guide pointed out the Wandering Tattler a somewhat plain looking wader with a prominent straight bill (0104). The Galapagos or White Cheeked Pintails were in a pond on Isabella Island. Scott photographed the Least Sandpiper on one of the shores. While photographing Brown Noddys a Peregrine Falcon appeared on the cliff. The Great Blue Heron was standing among the mangroves of Isabella Island. A different species of Gallinule, the Common Gallinule (9111) was in a pond with the Giant Tortoises on the Highlands of Santa Cruz.
