The Caribbean, American or Greater Flamingo all have the scientific name Phoenicopterus ruber. Some considerthe Greater Flamingo to be s separate species or subspecies. These are the most brightly colored and largest of all flamingos. They are a uniform pink except for the black bill. These flamingos are extremely gregarious and live in huge colonies. These social birds are known for their collective displays such as "head-flagging", "marching" and "wing salutes" which can be carried out by hundreds of birds together.
