Getting up-close and personal with Owls and Hawks is not easy. Thus, I took advantage of the birds in the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, a rescue center for injured birds. This provided some great shots of a Great Grey Owl Strix nebulosa, a Great Horned Owl Bubo virginianus, and an American Kestral Falco sparverius. The Red-shouldered Hawk Buteo lineaus was taken in the wild. He was sitting in a tree next to the tower at the end of Shark Valley Trail in the Everglades National Park, FL. He just kept staring at me as I got closer and closer. The pale grey head is typical of the Florida subspecies.
