In its stately, elegant beauty the Black-necked Stilt Himantopus mexicanus is rivaled only by the American Avocet, with whom it often shares mudflats. Its stark black and white coloring is often reflected by the waters it is standing in, producing a striking doublet of bird and bird reflection.
